Me 6/5/02
I woke up this morning and the sun was gone...
OOPS!!! That's the opening line to that great Boston song More than a Feeling! I love great rock music. Not that hard stuff just good rock. Journey, The Kinks, Pink Floyd, Dire Straites. Mostly great guitar rockin songs. Plus it was sunny out and gonna be a great hot day!
Back to I woke up this morning and no I did not have a nightmare or any kind of revelation but it was my Birthday! Most people freak out! I like to enjoy it as any other day and if I can make it better by getting off work, then who knows what I'll do.
Of course I played golf first thing this morning, then I was unsure as to what to do. I am 35 today but I feel like a kid still, well maybe a old teenager! But what was I gonna do, play another round of golf? Naw!!! But I have wanted to start a web site but like four wheeling I did not know anything about it when I first started. I still don't but I am able to post some picture for those who are interested in them. They are of me out having a great time Off Road. My youngest son Justin usually comes along so you may see him in the passenger seat. He digs getting up early and going out wheelin'!

What about the FORE part!!!
Okay, since it is pretty easy to tell that I love off roadin', so I will tell you about FORE!!!

It started back in February of 1986. I had just got out of boot camp in San Diego for the Navy. OK cut out the wise cracks! Anyway I had the honor of traveling with my still favorite golf buddy Tim. At this time we barely knew each other. We had gotten to know each other before the flight to Memphis TN. This is where we are going to get our designation Schooling (we learned how to do what our jobs in the Navy were gona be). I was going for Aviation Electrician's Mate "A" school and Basic electronic and electricity School(B.E.E.,or B double E school). I had atleast six months of schooling here. Since we at the time were restricted to the base we started to play golf. It was cheap and killed time. Plus we usually threw a few Back, If you know what I mean! My interest for golf started as a kid but I will go into that in another area. So me and Tim in the freezing cold of winter in TN. For a California raised punk it was cold! We wore our blue uniforms and peacoats. Man it was tough. But by Summertime we were doing pretty good we thought!!! You never really get close to those you meet in schools in the Navy. You rarely see them after that. Tim was out of school just as it started to get hot and man does it get hot in Tennessee, I mean Hot Hot!!! He moves on to his next station Before I get a chance to even dream of leaving this place.
As luck had it I was top in my class and was able to pick from the best of available duties because of this accomplishment. I was so excited. I picked Moffett Field CA in the Bay area. Shore duty all the way training squadron. Yeah Baby!!! Well this is where Tim ended up as well and even in the same squadron! WOW!!! We played golf as often as possible. Both of us got married along the way and started families. He ended up with the divorce and every so often braged about the single life trying to get me to convert to the singles club. But I have managed to stay married. So needless to say, Tim and I are still are in the same area and play golf often. In fact the loser just browned out on Golf at Poppy Hills in Monterey CA for my Birthday. So now maybe I should rethink the direction this friendship is going!!!

Here is the background of how Fore X Four Dakota evolved!
We'll start back when I first had thoughts of off roading or golf. For the Off roading I think it started the sameday when a road crew came into town and replaced the pavement no the main road in front of my house. I was probably 5 maybe 4 and a half. The road was the main one in the Village I lived in. Why a Village? Well that is what it was called Vandenburg Village. Only those from the Lompoc CA area would even know about this place. We did not have our own zip code. If you do not know where Lompoc CA is well don't feel bad but they do have a great festival every year in June. I still take my family there every year to enjoy it. It is about 3.5 hours south of San Jose CA and on the coast above Santa Barbara about a 1 hour drive away. Small town and even smaller where I lived but I loved growing up there.
Back to the road resurfacing. They removed all of the pavement and replaced it. I was just amazed at the power that the equipment these guys were driving had. I always thought from that time on I wanted to have my own off road truck.
When I got older, about 11, my Grandfather had moved in to his home he had bought for retirement with Grandma of course. We started to hang out in the summer my grandfather and I. He got me into hunting and trap shooting. We would go out to Vandenburg AFB and shoot rabbits and squirles. Now if you do not like this kind of thing I am sorry! I do not do any hunting now. In fact it was only for a few years that I did this until I got interested in other things. OH Boy were there other things!!!Anyway, He got me a hunting license and when we would go out, he started to teach me how to drive. Grandpa did not have a 4x4, I wish he did, but we always stayed on the main trails so we did not need it. I loved to go out with him and drive the trails. I was never disappointed if we never even got to shoot. I think this also contributed to my urge to go off road. Thanks Grandpa you taught me allot!!!
As I grew up I always dreamed of a Toyota 4x4 jacked up to the sky with huge wheels and tires. As I got older and started understanding things better I came to and bought a Dodge. So that is the FOUR was born.

Growing up was a great experiecnce in my opinion. I managed to stay out of major trouble! I was able to grow up from ages 11-14 spending allot of time grandfather, as I mentioned. He liked to Golf and hunt allot. He was retired. I started out with a hunters training course. Once I passed that and I got my hunting license. From there I started to Target shoot and shoot trap. I got pretty good. I got to hang out with my grandfathers buddies allot on hunting trips and in the summertime around the gun club. I used to get to drive the truck from the front to the back of the gun club. I remember one time I got caught gettin' a littler squirley in his Ford Courier pick up truck 2wd. And he let me have it. He was strick but still I always respected him and I am so thankfull nowadays! He would straight up in front of the whole group, tell me if he did not like how or what I was saying or doing. But I knew that I was getting some great experiences from this.

Since my grandfather retired to play more golf and stuff he lived on a golf course and was a member. We were clubhouse members and swam there allot. In the summertime we had to run accross the golf cousre to get to the pool. It was the quickest way! Most of the kids around had the pool membership so we went there allot. We had these one friends of ours who lived right above the 17th tee box. We would play football and tag there. It was located up on a hill so if someone came up we knew and ran into the trees and waited till it was clear again. Late when the sun was going down we would hack out that last hole hoping not to get caught. These are the days that I remember my first liking for golf to come about. I had a neighbor friend and we would go to the high school and hit golf balls from one end to the other . We usually got 4-5 good wacks in before we had to turn around and hit back the other way. I say about 500 yards prolly. I never really played golf until I hooked up with my Navy buddy Tim. But as far as Four Wheelin and Golf is concerned it has been in my head that this is what I would like to do someday. I finally got my handicap rating for the first time June of '02. I was rated at a 23 handicap. I'm good with that. I do not get to play nearly as much as I would like. This year I have tried to play atleast once a month. I have managed to get a couple rounds in the last couple of months. Sometimes I have to decide which I would rather do more Golf or Wheelin and that one is always tough to decide on.
